Carol J. Schifer

Carol June Schifer, 89, of Bucyrus, died Friday, October 5, 2018 at Altercare of Bucyrus.



She was born September 23, 1929 in Nevada to the late Charles and Juanita (Burwell) Frey and was a 1947 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Carol started working at Bucyrus Community Hospital before hiring in at ITT/North Electric, where she was employed for 30 plus years. She also worked for a several years as a nurses aide at Fairhaven and Altercare.



Carol’s life can be summed up as “always on the go”. She bowled and played golf in various leagues for many years and volunteered time at the hospital gift shop and delivered Meals on Wheels. Carol occasionally played BINGO and never missed a game of euchre with friends. Usually their biggest question was, “Where are we going to eat today?”. She was an active member with Women of the Moose and American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. What little down time she did have was reserved for reading, watching TV or working crossword puzzles.



Carol is survived by two children, Sandra (Mitch) Long and Steven (Cynthia) Schifer; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Darin) Brown and Mark Beran; six great grandchildren, Nicole Tschanen Jacob Bowman and Danielle, Mason Brown, Joey Beran, Cody McKinley and Cole (Shayla) McKinley; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Kent as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Armstrong and three brothers-in-law, Pick Flock, Melvin Armstrong and Jim Kent.



A graveside funeral will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, October 10 at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Donations can be made payable to Bucyrus Public Library or to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service or at the cemetery on the morning of service.
