Bill Deitler

William Franklin Deitler, 92, of Bucyrus, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Heartland of Bucyrus.

He was born October 29, 1922 in Lima, Ohio to the late William F. and Iva (Darby) Deitler. After his father’s death in 1930, William was fostered by the late Matt and Goldie Otto. Bill graduated in 1940 from Holmes Liberty High School and in 1943 he proudly enlisted in the US Army where he served in the South West Pacific Area as a combat serviceman with the 1st Cavalry Division. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Bill returned home and on October 29, 1949 he married Ruth A. Kronenberger who survives.

Bill was a hardworking individual who spent 34 years at Swan Rubber before his retirement. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, D.A.V. Chapter 100, American Legion Post 181 and VFW Post 1078. He and Ruth spent many wonderful evenings with their “club” of friends and earlier in life, he enjoyed traveling the United States on his Harley Davidson. Bill was very generous to his family and loved spending time with them. He always had a compliment for anyone who came in contact with him and up until the week of his death, he was still letting people know what a pretty smile they had or how great their hair looked.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Bill is survived by his children, Matthew H. Deitler and Marianne (Ronald) Markley both of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Markley, Amy (Chad) Durham, Michelle Markley, Sarah Markley, Tim Markley and Stephanie Deitler along with several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 5 at Wise Funeral Service where a Rosary service will conclude the evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. John Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery with full military rites being provided by US Army and American Legion Post 181 honor guards.
