Lloyd D. Daiber

Lloyd D. Daiber, 91, of rural Bucyrus died Thursday, April 26, 2018 at his home. His death was unexpected, but he had not been feeling well for a week.

He was born in Bucyrus on December 19, 1926 and raised on the family farm on Knauss Road. Lloyd graduated from Mt. Zion High School and enlisted in the US Army in 1946, serving in Japan and Maryland until his honorable discharge in 1947. He married Bonnie L. Cox in 1951 and she preceded him in death on January 28, 1989. He married Wanda J. Candel, whom he knew through church, in 1992 and she survives at home.

Lloyd’s lifelong passion was farming. He farmed with his brother Robert and raised hogs, cattle, and sheep until his brother retired when Lloyd began driving truck until retiring in 2003. He also sold OYO seed corn in the 1970s. He was never one to stray too far from farm and home as he loved seeing that his grass was nicely mown, but did enjoy the occasional trip to Amish Country and he also visited Hershey, Pa., the Swiss Village in Berne, Ind., and Branson, Mo. He will be remembered for his deep faith, love of family, and love of popcorn. He read his Bible every day, was an usher and Sunday school treasurer for many years with the Bucyrus Nazarene Church, and has been a member of the Kaler Ave. Church of Christ in Christian Union for several years. When raising his family, Sundays after church were a time to gather with extended family before popping some corn and returning to church in the evening. He was also a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan, both football and basketball.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, Gary (Rochelle) Daiber and Rick (Linda) Daiber; ten grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Mabel Kirby, Florence Daiber, Roma Keller, and Joyce (Richard) Brown; son-in-law, Rodney Shumaker; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Bonnie, Lloyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Shumaker; brother, Robert Daiber; and two infant siblings.

The Daiber family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 2 from 5-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am with Pastor Bob Jividen officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.

Memorial donations may be made payable to The Gideons and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Lloyd’s Tribute Wall.
