Lena A. Pollock

Lena A. Pollock, 86, of Bucyrus, died Friday, March 31, 2017 at Signature Healthcare in Galion.

She was born July 23, 1930 in McCutchenville, Ohio to the late Henry and Mary Ella Grace (Sipes) Sipe. Lena grew up in the area and graduated from Holmes Liberty High School. On July 30, 1949 she married Frederick “Fritz” Pollock in the parsonage of Oceola United Methodist Church and her life was never the same following his death on January 2, 2011.

Lena lived to care for her family as a homemaker and was extremely talented in the kitchen. She will be remembered for her incredible beef and homemade pot pies as well as her cherry and apple pies. Lena always wanted to become a nurse and even though that dream never became a reality, she was proud to have worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Bucyrus Community Hospital for many years.

Lena was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She actively bowled for many years in a league at Suburban Lanes and she and Fritz enjoyed camping with fellow members of the Timken Camping Club. They traveled whenever the opportunity presented itself and Lena always looked forward to visiting family in Pennsylvania during the summer. In more recent years before his death, they often just got in the car and took an evening drive. This almost always included a stop for an ice cream cone along the way.

She is survived by four children, Alan Pollock, Debra (Ed) Muchow, Christine (David Ruth) Diebler all of Bucyrus and Frederick (Vonda) Pollock II of Waynesboro, PA; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters-in-law, Arlene, Joyce, Sally, Helen and Ruth Sipe.

She is preceded in death by 15 siblings, Ernest, Judson, Raymond, Merrill “Bill”, Carl “Pete”, Guy, Earl “Rusty”, Eugene, Cloyd, Lester and Boyd “Bob” Sipe, Carrie Sipe, Laura Arnone, Edna Giles, and Dorothy Sipes; three great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Ed Diebler and a daughter-in-law, Dolly Pollock.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 3 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Ken Lance officiating. Burial will follow in Oceola Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be given to Calvary Baptist Church or to Signature Healthcare (for their activities dept.) through the funeral home.
