James E. Kent

James Edward Kent, 88, of Bucyrus, died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 2, 2018.

Jim was born May 22, 1930 in Bucyrus to the late Dewey M. and Alice (Rehm) Kent, Sr. He attended school at Bucyrus where he was active in the choir until becoming very sick his junior year, forcing him him to leave school. He later went back and was proud to have received his GED. On November 26, 1950 Jim married Rosemary I. Frey and she survives.

Early in life, Jim helped his dad at his plumbing business and spent a short time at Swan Rubber before taking a position with Timken, retiring in 1989. Jim and Rosie always kept busy. During summer months, their weekends were spent at Lake Erie, where they enjoyed fishing, water skiing and socializing with friends and family. They were active tennis players and enjoyed traveling Ohio to participate in tournaments. Following his retirement, they purchased a place in Marathon, Florida where they wintered for many years. This allowed him more fishing and he and Rosie also found time to snorkel. In addition to fishing, Jim liked to hunt, go mushroom hunting and ride his motorcycle. He was a very skilled craftsman who built the home they live in and could have built anything to fill it. One of the highlights of his life was for their 50th wedding anniversary, Rosie convinced him to take a hot air balloon ride and the views were completely breathtaking. Jim and Rosie also spent many July 4 holidays at Red, White and Boom, so remember the good times had with Jim while watching the fireworks this year.

He wasn’t into joining a lot of organizations, but Jim did serve in the Ohio National Guard and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he participated in Bible studies and enjoyed socializing with fellow members.

In addition to Rosie, his wife of 67 years, Jim is survived by children, Thomas (Rebecca) Kent of Pataskala, Ohio and Kathleen “Kathy” Kent of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer (Will) Havanas, Charles (Abbi) Kent, Rachael (Brett) Hurst, Annie (Kane) Bradley, Joshua (Mariah) Kent, Melissa Moore, Billie James (Joy) Moore and Tiffany (David) Gonzales; 16 great grandchildren and one sister, Julie Kent of Bucyrus. Jim was preceded in death by siblings, Dewey Kent, Jr. and Betty Beckett.

His family will receive friends from 11-12:55 pm Friday, July 6 at Wise Funeral Service where his funeral will be held that day at 1:00 pm with Pastor Michael Greenler officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Contributions can be made payable to either, HomeCare Matters Hospice or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his Tribute Wall.
