George Miller

George Miller, 87, of Marion Twp. went to be with the Lord, early Friday, August 18, 2017 at Altercare of Bucyrus.



He was born and raised in Marion, Ohio the youngest child of the late George Washington and Sarah Carrie (Enos) Miller. He attended Marion City Schools and began working for the Isaly Dairy Co. He was the youngest person at age 19 promoted by the company to the position of manager. It was in this position at the Bucyrus Isaly’s where he met and began dating Barbara Schifer. George served in the US Army from 1951-1953, the majority of his post in Germany. He and Barbara were married November 14, 1954 and raised their family in Marion.



George will be remembered as a man who liked life, enjoyed people and truly loved his family. A diligently hard worker who could fix anything, he worked in the trucking industry, retiring from Smith Transport before helping part-time as a runner for Walston Motors in Bucyrus. He had a deep unwavering faith. He was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion and later Good Hope Lutheran in Bucyrus serving on several committees and Church Council. He enjoyed gardening, many types of music, the outdoors, history and travel. He believed education and hard work were the key to triumph over anything and never stopped reading and learning.



George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Miller; three children, Sarah Miller Sullivan of Marion, Jeffrey (Janine) Miller of South Charleston, and Christina Miller Fown of Marion; nine grandchildren, Lydia and Owen Sullivan, Abby, Carrie, Ben and Jed Miller, and Michaela, Byron and Jessica Fown. He is also survived by two cousins, Eleanor Gibbs of Fremont and Charles McCurdy of Santa Fe, NM; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Miller of Columbus and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Thomas Miller, Joe Miller and Edith Miller Kirby.



Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be held on Wednesday, August 23 at 11:30 am at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus with Pastor Renee Ahern officiating. Friends may call at the church prior to the funeral from 10-11:20. Burial will follow the funeral in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the US Army Honor Guard.



Those wishing to make a memorial donation in lieu of flowers are asked to make them payable to the Good Hope Lutheran Church memorial fund and give through the funeral home.
