Eula M. Seyler

Eula May Seyler, 98, of Gahanna and formerly of Bucyrus died peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at her home under the care of her daughter.

She was born September 25, 1919 in Clark County, Ohio to the late George W. and Carrie B. (Dolwick) Grindle. Eula grew up in Clifton, Ohio, the seventh of 13 children, on the family farm that is now part of the Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve where she always liked to do anything outside instead of indoor chores. Eula graduated from Cedarville High School in 1937. On June 6, 1937, she married William “Pete” Seyler of Bucyrus whom she met while he was working for the CCC at the Gorges. They moved to Bucyrus where she worked for GE before becoming a fulltime homemaker after the birth of her daughters. After Pete’s retirement from Swan, they became mobile by purchasing a motorhome to winter in Florida and camp near Westerville in the summer. Pete preceded her in death on September 2, 1996.

Eula had a passion for gardening, always using the same rusty spade and she was always rewarded with beautiful flowers and vegetables. She and Pete were usually found enjoying a lively game of cards with friends or sharing the strategy of Aggravation and Sorry! with their grandchildren. While in Bucyrus, she attended the former Grace EUB Church and enjoyed guild meetings. In her later years, she liked reading Guideposts and was a loyal game show viewer.

Eula is survived by two daughters, Sally (Ed) Scruggs of Leesburg, Florida and Sharon Scholl of Gahanna; six grandchildren, Stacy (Ty) Bowers, Ed (Karri) Scruggs, Jason (Katie) Scruggs, Ashley (Matt) Slate, Dale (Jennifer) Scholl, and Darin Scholl; 14 great grandchildren with one expected; one great-great grandchild with one expected; and her brother, Marvin Grindle of Sandusky.

In addition to her parents and husband of 59 years, Eula was preceded in death by 11 siblings, Howard, Chester, Etta, James, Margaret, George, Goldie, Robert, Marion, Norman, and an infant brother.

Friends may gather with Eula’s family for a graveside funeral service on Monday, March 19 in Oakwood Cemetery at 2:00 pm with Gene Luidhardt, SAM officiating.

Memorial donations can be made payable to National Church Residences Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Eula’s Tribute Wall.
