Dorothy M. Leuthold

Dorothy Mae Leuthold, 96, of Bucyrus passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Heartland of Bucyrus.



She was born on January 31, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Harvey and Lenora (Link) Ayres. She shared this birthday with a twin sister, Lucille Smith. When Dorothy's mother passed away at an early age; Dorothy and Lucille were raised by her mother’s brother and his wife, John and Gladys Link of Attica. She graduated from Attica High School in 1939.



Dorothy was employed by the Michael Family of Bucyrus as a housekeeper for Mrs. Michael for 7 years. She then worked at the Swan Rubber Co. where she met and later married her only love, Roger Leuthold on June 30, 1946. They were married for 66 wonderful years before Roger preceded her in death July 26, 2012. Their first and only home was on Lavina Avenue in Bucyrus where they lived for more than 50 years. Dorothy also worked for Ohio Mutual Insurance Co. for 12 years until retiring in 1981.



Dorothy was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She had a personality that made her a friend to everyone she met. She raised many cats and treated them like royalty. She was very fond of her 13 nieces and nephews especially her nephew Jim Smith, her sister's only child, who visited her every week at Heartland. She is also survived by a half-sister, Evelyn Stang of Medina who kept in touch despite the long distance and a number of cousins, two of whom, Kathy (Tom) Kirby and Gretchen (Doug) Studer, were regular caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and an infant brother.



Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, April 5 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where friends may call prior to the service from 10:30-11:50 am. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.



Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to give to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County or Bucyrus United Methodist church through the funeral home. Memories can be shared on Dorothy’s Tribute Wall.
