Brenda E. Cuffman

Brenda E. Cuffman, 72, died Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Cleveland Clinic following a hard-fought battle with cancer.

She was born April 23, 1946 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Rufus and Ruth Mae (Ard) Johnson. Her family headed north when she was a young girl and Brenda graduated from Mohawk High School in 1965. She spent over 42 years working at Swan Rubber, and this is where she met her husband Tom Cuffman. They were married on July 19, 1983 and enjoyed many laughs and memories.

Brenda’s life was centralized around her pride and joy, her five grandchildren, who proudly referred to her as Maw Maw. She made every effort to be involved in their lives as much as possible and they made every day of her’s a little brighter. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and children and rarely turned down a chance to make a loving memory. She always looked forward to family gatherings with Thanksgiving and Christmas being her favorites. She was an excellent cook who will be remembered for her soup beans, meatloaf, and corn bread. Though Brenda loved her family, bingo was a close second. Anytime dinner was being prepared a little early, they knew she had hopes of going to play bingo with her close friend, Bev Long. When traveling to visit her family in Tennessee, she and her sister-in-law often enjoyed an evening at the bingo hall. Brenda was never a sports fan until she met her husband. They enjoyed watching many sports on television but especially OSU sports and Xavier basketball. For relaxation, Brenda was often found in her pool and the pool was always open for family and friends.

Brenda was always a person of faith but following the death of her mother in 2011, her relationship with Christ strengthened and she became an active member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving on the church council, assisted in feeding the hungry, and preparing monthly dinners for the Gideons.

In addition to Tom, her husband of 35 years, Brenda is survived by two children, Ryan (Erika) Zellner and Mistii (Chad) Zimmerman; five grandchildren, Peyton Zimmerman, Carter Zimmerman, Owen Zellner, Ross Zellner and Jessika Cotsmire; five siblings, Donald (Darlene) Johnson, Delbert (Pam) Johnson, Diane (Richard) Logsdon, Connie (Rusty) Akers, and Cathy (Bill) Thom. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members and shared a special friendship with her sister-in-law, Ruth Pearson and her children.

Her family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday, September 14 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, September 15. A private burial will be held at a later date.

If individuals would like to make a memorial donation, Brenda’s family would be humbled to see those gifts be given to The Center for Autism and Dyslexia rather than receiving floral gifts. These donations will be accepted through the funeral home and memories are encouraged to be shared on her Tribute Wall.
