Arden P. Miller

Arden Paul Miller, 90, of Bucyrus, died Thursday, July 19, 2018 at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born December 2, 1927 in Holmes Twp., Crawford County to the late Walter E. and Sylvia B. (Mutchler) Miller. Arden was a 1945 graduate of Holmes Liberty High School and shortly thereafter was drafted into the US Army and stationed in Japan. Following his time in the service, Arden returned home and met a young lady by the name of Sonja H. Christensen. They dated a couple of years and on September 1, 1949 they married.

Arden worked at National Lime & Stone quarry; was a deputy with the Wyandot County Sheriff’s office; owned and operated Miller’s Store in Nevada with his wife; and retired from Swan Rubber in 1989.

Arden was a longtime member of Nevada Lutheran Church where he served on council, saw to it that the church was open and ready for early service and did a lot of mowing over the years. He liked working with metal and when something in a store caught his eye, he’d often gather materials needed and simply build it himself. He and Sonja spent hours each day working in their gardens. His favorite flowers were day lilies and when it came to vegetables, he often canned what was grown.

There were many memories from camping at Otsego Lake in Michigan and Arden enjoyed various bus trips over the years; hitting every state except Alaska and North Dakota. He fished, did some hunting and enjoyed working on cars.

In addition to Sonja, his wife of 68 years, Arden is survived by two sons, Michael (Rebecca) Miller of Nevada and Gary (Casey) Miller of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Sherry (Wesley) Pinion of Edmond, Okla. and Barry (Brandy) Miller of Bucyrus; four great grandchildren Ty (Hope) Pinion, Rylie Pinion, Brazlynn Miller, and Brayzen Miller. In the very near future, the family will welcome a great-great grandson, Brody Rhett Pinion.

He was preceded by two children, Elizabeth Miller, who died during infancy, and Christopher Miller; five brothers, Wayne, Eugene, Robert, William, and Junior Miller; and three sisters, Janet Bower, Anna Sipe, and Arlene “Dolly” Honsberger who was his twin.

Calling hours will be held from 4-8 pm Sunday, July 22 at Wise Funeral Service. His funeral will begin at 11:00 am Monday at Nevada Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Nilsen officiating. Family will also receive friends that morning at the church from 10-10:55. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery, where military rites will be provided by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.

Donations can be made payable to Nevada Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or at the church. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on Arden's Tribute Wall.
