Maxine Addie "Tiny" Laek, 90, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, January 31 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

She was born June 10, 1919 in Bucyrus to the late Alonzo and Elizabeth (Patton) Garner. Maxine attended school at Bucyrus and on March 2, 1940 she married J. Maurice Laek whom she had met at the bowling alley on Mary Street. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2000.

Maxine began work in the mid 1950's as a teaching aide. She was employed at Kilbourne School and worked with the mentally challenged. She then worked as a nurse's aide for a number of years before becoming a LPN and worked at Bucyrus Community Hospital until retiring.

She is survived by two sons, Donald L. Laek and wife Ruth and Maurice W. Laek and wife Sherry both of Bucyrus; seven grandchildren, Robin (David) Kocher, Daniel Laek, Michele (David) Lee, Beth Howlett and special friend Mike Brown, Theresa Parker and special friend Jim Candel, Lisa (Mike) McGuire and Richard (Robyn) Blankenship II; numerous great grandchildren and one brother, Donald Garner of Modesto, California.

Along with her parents and husband, Maxine is preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Blankenship, a grandson, Michael Laek; three brothers, Elwood, Gordon, and Fred Garner and two sisters, Mary (Garner) Widman and Nellie Garner.

When her husband was still living, they enjoyed bowling together and spending time at their camper in Port Clinton fishing and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, crafting and gardening but mostly loved her family and the get togethers they had, especially the ones at Christmas time.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 3 at Wise Funeral Service with Pastor Dave Greenick officiating. Her family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11:30 - 1:30 and following the service, burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery next to her husband. Contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
