Maxine
Addie "Tiny" Laek, 90, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, January
31 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
She was born
June 10, 1919 in Bucyrus to the late Alonzo and Elizabeth (Patton)
Garner. Maxine attended school at Bucyrus and on March 2, 1940 she
married J. Maurice Laek whom she had met at the bowling alley on
Mary Street. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2000.
Maxine began
work in the mid 1950's as a teaching aide. She was employed at Kilbourne
School and worked with the mentally challenged. She then worked
as a nurse's aide for a number of years before becoming a LPN and
worked at Bucyrus Community Hospital until retiring.
She is survived
by two sons, Donald L. Laek and wife Ruth and Maurice W. Laek and
wife Sherry both of Bucyrus; seven grandchildren, Robin (David)
Kocher, Daniel Laek, Michele (David) Lee, Beth Howlett and special
friend Mike Brown, Theresa Parker and special friend Jim Candel,
Lisa (Mike) McGuire and Richard (Robyn) Blankenship II; numerous
great grandchildren and one brother, Donald Garner of Modesto, California.
Along with her
parents and husband, Maxine is preceded in death by a daughter,
Sherry Blankenship, a grandson, Michael Laek; three brothers, Elwood,
Gordon, and Fred Garner and two sisters, Mary (Garner) Widman and
Nellie Garner.
When her husband
was still living, they enjoyed bowling together and spending time
at their camper in Port Clinton fishing and spending time with family
and friends. She enjoyed quilting, crafting and gardening but mostly
loved her family and the get togethers they had, especially the
ones at Christmas time.
Funeral service
will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 3 at Wise Funeral
Service with Pastor Dave Greenick officiating. Her family will receive
friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11:30 - 1:30 and following
the service, burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery next to
her husband. Contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's
choice through the funeral home.
