Dorothy Hamilton-Kurtz,
87, of Bucyrus, died Monday, February 8.
She was born
October 3, 1922 near Newcomerstown to the late Robert W. and M.
Edna (Waggoner) Pollock. Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of West Lafayette
High School and in 1942 she married Herbert Hamilton who preceded
her in death in 1988. In 1994 she married Paul Kurtz who predeceased
her in 2006.
Dorothy moved
to the area in 1943 and lived on a farm south of New Washington
on St. Rte. 602. She worked as a Program Clerk at ASCS. She served
as a secretary for the Crawford County Extension Office and also
was the Assistant Clerk/Treasurer for the Col. Crawford School District.
She was previously
active with the Plain City Barn Dance Group; Golden Agers, where
she served on the board and typed the newsletter; and Crawford County
Senior Center, assisting with writing, editing, and typing the monthly
newsletter. For ten years, Dorothy volunteered her time during the
summer months at the Sycamore School Library. She was raised in
the Methodist faith. She previously spent several winters in Florida
and attended Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Avon Park,
Florida.
Dorothy is survived
by two daughters, Linda (Don) Saxby of Clinton and Joy (Jeff) Hillis
of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, David (Trinette) Cotsmire of North
Canton, Steve (Becky) Cotsmire of St. Clairsville and Mary (Jason
Stayanchi) Hillis of Osaka, Japan; six great grandchildren, Marisa
and Austin Cotsmire of North Canton, Alex, Brady, and Rachael Cotsmire
of Gnadenhutten, and Leda Stayanchi of Osaka; two step-great granddaughters,
Lauren and Emily Bloom of St. Clairsville; one brother, Robert (Donna)
Pollock of Springfield; one sister, Gayle (Lynn) Welker of Wooster;
two sisters-in-law, Mabel Pollock of Newcomerstown and Mary (Kurtz)
Gorsuch of Lancaster; one brother-in-law, Calvin (Wanda) Kurtz of
Chatfield along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition
to her parents and spouses, Dorothy is preceded in death by a brother,
Ralph Pollock; two sisters, Kathryn Wiker and Joyce Poland; her
first husband's sister, Gladys (Theodore) Herman; a stepdaughter,
Mary Ann Braglin and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Her family will
receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 12 and Saturday from
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service; where funeral will
follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday with Gene Luidhardt, SAM officiating.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made
to the Bucyrus Public Library through the funeral home.
