Marie A. Kent,
71, of Uniondale, Iowa and formerly of Bucyrus, died Friday, December
11 at Mifflin Care Center in Mansfield.
Marie was born
January 4, 1938 in Bucyrus, to the late Ernest and Iva (Garton)
Kent. She was a Bucyrus High School graduate, Class of 1955, and
went on to attend the University of Wisconsin where she received
her bachelors degree in Psychology and Social Welfare and later
attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota where
she received her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology.
She worked as a mental health counselor and held many professional
certifications. Recently, Marie was a volunteer for the Iowa National
Guard where she proudly gave her time and experience as a counselor
to returning war veterans.
Marie is survived
by sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Dennis Atkeson of Mansfield
and Carol and Wayne Scheffler of Bucyrus; sisters-in-law, Naomi
Kent of South Bend, Indiana and Phyllis Kent of Canton; as well
as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Dale, Kenneth,
and Vernon Kent.
Marie was a
member St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines, American Association
of University Women, past board member of Kiwanis of Ida Grove,
and Past Board Secretary of Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association.
She volunteered her time and talent to numerous community endeavors
and above all was concerned for human life and individual dignity
and integrity.
Friends may
call at Wise Funeral Service Tuesday December 15, 2009 from 5-8
p.m. where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
with Pastor Matthew Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral
home to the American Cancer Society or the Summa Foundation for
AIDS research.
