Darl
E. Keller, 83, of rural Bucyrus, died Monday, December 7 at Mansfield
MedCentral Hospital.
Mr. Keller was
born July 21, 1926 in Tiffin to the late Ralph and Helen (Buskirk)
Keller. He graduated from Cygnet High School in 1944 and enlisted
in the United States Navy Air Corp. On November 11, 1951 he married
his wife of 58 years Maxine (Beamer) Keller who survives.
Mr. Keller is
survived by his four children and their spouses Helen (Jim) Luidhardt
of rural Bucyrus, Paul (Jackie) Keller of Franklin, Michigan, Bruce
(Susan) Keller of Cincinnati, and Sarah (Randy) Shifley of Bucyrus;
11 grandchildren Nadene (Dwight) Heckelman of Lancaster, Aileen
(Rex) Plamann of Elmhurst, Illinois, Katie (Jim) Davis of Beverly
Hills, Michigan, Erika Keller of Cincinnati, Adam Keller of Franklin,
Michigan, Andrew, Michael, and Sarah Keller of Cincinnati, and Kindall,
Dana, and John Shifley of Bucyrus; two great grandchildren; a sister,
Genevieve Alguire of Galion; brothers, Mark (Linda) Keller of Columbus
and Larry (Kay) Keller of Punta Gorda, Florida; sister-in-law, Marthalee
Horning of Galion, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Aleta
(Campbell) Keller and his grandson, Jordan Keller.
Mr. Keller attended
Findlay College and Case Western Reserve. He was a 57 year member
of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he served in various positions
including trustee, treasurer, youth group leader, Sunday School
teacher, and sang in the choir. He was a past member of the Bucyrus
Masonic Lodge having achieved the level of 32nd Degree Mason. He
also served on the Wynford School Board for eight years and was
a past president. Mr. Keller enjoyed flying, reading, traveling,
history and following sports - especially the Cincinnati Bengals,
University of Michigan Soccer and Wynford Royals. He farmed in Hancock
and Crawford counties for 45 years, retiring in 1991. He also worked
for The Timken Company for 31 years, retiring in 1985 as the production
supervisor. Upon retirement he, along with Maxine, served Meals
On Wheels in Bucyrus for 15 years.
A memorial service
will be held at 12 noon Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Mt. Zion
UMC with Pastor Sondra Snode officiating. The family will receive
friends 2 hours prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 12 noon
at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made through Wise Funeral Service to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church
Darl and Maxine Keller Scholarship Fund or the Crawford Park District.
The Scholarship Fund was established by the Keller children in 2001
in honor of Darl and Maxine's 50th wedding anniversary and in recognition
of their support of higher education. Scholarships are awarded on
an annual basis to the church's youth.
