Walter C. Esterline, 88, of Bucyrus, died, Sunday, November 8 at Fairview Manor.

Mr. Esterline was born July 17, 1921 in Crawford County to the late Walter Emmet and Isabel (Snyder) Esterline. He was a 1939 graduate of Bucyrus High School and on August 27, 1940 married his wife of 69 years, Salome (Heinlen) Esterline, who survives. Walter and Salome built more than a successful marriage; they are entrepreneurs and have worked together to build successful family-owned businesses including the Dairy Crest, Red Eye Reality and for the past 35 years, Estie Rentals. The couple continued to "tie the knot" weaving rag rugs in the Loom Room, a family hobby that includes their daughters, Pat and Linda.

He is survived by his daughter, Pat Esterline and daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bob Durtschi, both of Bucyrus; grandchild, Mike (Julie) Esterline and great grandchildren, Kelsey and Ross Esterline, all of Dublin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Esterline.

Mr. Esterline served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1945. He was a member, as well as a deacon and elder, at St. John's UCC, lifelong member of the Bucyrus Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, 50 year member of the American Legion, past president of Bucyrus Athletic Boosters, past president of Kiwanis, past chairman and 20 year member of Bucyrus City Civil Service Commission, Little League coach, and a participant of church league softball.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 12 at 1 p.m. at St. John's UCC where friends may call one hour prior. Reverend Steven E. Voelker will officiate and burial of ashes will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post 181.
