Frederick
E. "Fred" Christman, 87, formerly of 1355 Orchard Lane
and more recently of The Inn at Orchard Park, died Sunday, November
22.
Fred was born
in Bucyrus to the late Pearl Albert Christman and Nellie (Mollencop)
Christman. On November 30, 1941 he married Jeannette G. Russell
who preceded him in death April 30, 2007. Fred was a 1940 graduate
of Bucyrus High School.
Fred is survived
by five children, Juleen Brantingham of Lafayette, Louisiana, John
(Fran) Christman of Winter Springs, Florida, Jayne (Michael) Roessner
of Defiance; Jody Christman of Bucyrus and Joel (Gina) Christman
of Cincinnati, as well as ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Fred was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Brantingham
and a brother, Richard "Dick" Christman.
Fred was employed
by Farmers Citizens Bank and served as President from 1972 until
his retirement in 1988. He was a lifelong member of Woodlawn United
Methodist Church, life member Colonel Crawford Post #181, American
Legion; life member Post 1078 V.F.W.; member Bucyrus Moose Lodge;
former Trustee John Q. Shunk Foundation and Board President from
1979-1998; former member Bucyrus City Council and former Bucyrus
City Auditor and had always been active in many civic and community
activities during his life. Fred was a World War II veteran of the
U.S. Army receiving the European African Middle East Campaign Medal
with four Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was
pleased to serve as Grand Marshall, along with Jeannette, of the
Bratwurst Festival Parade in 2006.
Calling hours
will be after 12 noon Friday, November 27 at Wise Funeral Service
where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral
service will be held Saturday at Woodlawn UMC at 10 AM with Reverend
James Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery
with military rites provided by American Legion Post #181. Memorial
contributions may be made through the funeral home to Woodlawn UMC
or HomeCare Matters Hospice.
