Evlynn
C. (Spencer) Beelman, 87, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, January 17 at
Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
She was born
September 22, 1922 in Cleveland to the late Arthur R. Spencer and
Minnie (Rhynard) Spencer Strohm. Evlynn was a 1941 graduate of Bucyrus
High School and attended Tiffin Business School. On January 18,
1947 she married Harry S. "Tiny" Beelman who preceded
her in death on December 9, 1994.
Evlynn's occupation
was that of secretarial and clerical duties. She worked for the
following businesses throughout her career; North Electric, Smith
Incubator, Bucyrus City Income Tax Dept., Crawford County Board
of Elections where she served as a director, Holy Trinity School,
and Missionaries of the Sacred Heart Center, retiring in 1987.
She was a member
of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she was a past president
of the Rosary Altar Society, one of the first Lay Eucharistic Ministers
at the church, belonged to the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and was
a past director of the R.C.I.A. She was also a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary of Elks 156, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post
181; Democratic Women of Crawford County where she served as past
president and on the Democratic Central Committee. Most recently,
Evlynn served as a trustee for the Bucyrus Historical Society as
well as their corresponding secretary until her health no longer
permitted her to do so. She was a Red Cross Volunteer for the blood
pressure clinics at the Senior Center and she attended the PERS
Chapter of Crawford County meetings.
She is survived
by two daughters, Karen E. "Becky" Stauffer and husband
Walter and Lydia C. "Tena" Herman and husband Don, both
of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, Jennifer Vermillion and husband
Vernon of Bucyrus, Carrie C. Herman of Xenia and Captain Thomas
Herman and wife Luciana serving in the U.S. Army; and three great
grandchildren, Levi Vermillion, Micah Vermillion and Hannah Vermillion.
In addition
to her parents and husband, Evlynn is preceded in death by a grandson,
Taylor "Tad" Stauffer; two brothers, Arthur R. Spencer
and Herbert Spencer and two sisters, Esther Finding and Gertrude
Vanichek.
Evlynn was extraordinarily
ahead of most people even half her age when it came to technology
and the internet. At 87, she took care of her personal business
online and had a network of friends she kept in touch with including
a Facebook account. She enjoyed watching NASCAR races and followed
her favorite driver, Carl Edwards.
Calling hours
will be held from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 20 at Wise Funeral
Service where a Rosary service will begin at 6:45 p.m. Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity
Catholic Church with Fr. Frederick Schill as celebrant. A private
family interment will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Bucyrus Historical Society
or to Holy Trinity Catholic Church through the funeral home.
